We had the pleasure to be a part of Weddings the Bridal Show this past weekend at The Nashville Convention Center.  Last week we showed a sneak peek of the new wedding cake designs that our decorating team created for the show.  Here are the final results.

We designed these new cakes off of beautiful wedding dresses from Arzelle’s . These dresses gave us inspiration to show many different ways that you can incorporate your dream wedding dress into your dream wedding cake!

Here is a look at all the new cake designs  we took to the show!  a BIG thank you to Kristyn Hogan for taking these photos

A groom’s cake is a fun tradition that is very popular here in the south. There are so many reasons to have a groom’s cake.  For starters, it is a really fun way to bring the personality of the groom out at the reception. This can be done in so many ways from favorite team logos, to sculpted animals and cars. Here is a fun alternative to the groom’s cake, try a groom’s pie! We made Mini Key Lime Pies for a wedding this past summer and they were the hit of the reception! Whatever your favorite dessert is we can turn it into a groom’s dessert too!

This past week Nicole and I had the opportunity to go to the Tn ICES chapters Day of Sharing. It was a day all about gumpaste flowers. We were able to see 3 demo’s and learn lots about how to create these beautiful flowers to put on wedding cakes and other special occasion cakes.

This was such a  fun day! We always come back with new ideas and new friends.

This past Sunday we were proud to be featured in the Tennessean Newspaper. They feature one wedding each week and tell all about the ceremony and the reception. This particular wedding was October of 2008 at The Brentwood Country Club. We provided the Bridal Cake and the Grooms cake.  Erin ( the bride) worked closly with our wedding cake designer to recreate a cake that she had fallen in love with. The inspiration cake was in a bridal magazine, we adjusted it to fit the look Erin wanted. Here is a picture of the wedding cake!

We have had a great start to 2009 here at The Bake Shoppe. We are currently in the process of meeting with brides and grooms to plan upcoming weddings for this year. This is always a fun time here at the store because we get to meet new clients and design new wedding cakes.

With the economy in mind this year we created a Value Package for a wedding cake and  grooms cake together. We thought this would be a great way to give our clients the great tasting cakes they love, the designs that are most popular and the price that will work well with any one’s budget!

So here’s the deal… you will get a 3 tiered wedding cake, with 3 designs to choose from, 4 of our most popular flavors to choose from and a 2 tiered grooms cake that is adorned with chocolate dipped strawberries all for only $500.00 plus delivery and tax.

Here are a 2 of the wedding cake designs that are being featured in the package. You can have the cake stacked together or we can separate the tiers allowing room for your florist to add fresh flowers to the cake.

The 4 flavors that are available in this package will be our most popular flavors: Sour Cream Almond, Traditional White, Strawberry Pound, and Kahlua Chocolate Fudge! You may choose one flavor for the wedding cake and one flavor for the grooms cake. All cakes are iced with our buttercream icing.

Speaking of the grooms cake, here is a picture of it. It is a decadent looking cake, that is very classy! It is iced in a rich Chocolate Buttercream and decorated with a scroll pattern. There are Chocolate Dipped Strawberries that are an added bonus to this tasty grooms cake. You can have the strawberries dipped with  Chocolate or White Chocolate or dipped with both to look like a tux!

If you are interested in setting up a complimentary consultation with on of our consultants, please give us a call. We offer very flexible hours and days, even Saturdays! During our meeting we will talk about the design of the cake and taste the flavors available to see what you like the best.

Delivery and Set up of your wedding cake is available at an additional fee. This is dependant upon where the cakes are being delivered to. For the Nashville area the rates start at $50.00 and go up from there.

We are happy to work with you to come up with a cake that will meet all your needs- taste, design, and budget.

Please call on of our consultants today to book your appointment!

Lately I have been looking at cakes with flowers added to them as an accent. Flowers can be done to add color texture and a touch of romance to any wedding cake. There are so many ways that this can be done… you can have a topper, fill in between tiers, you can add small flowers to the sides of the tiers as well.

As well as many ways they can be displayed on a cake they can also be fresh, sugar, or silk.

There are a few things to think about when adding flowers of any type to your wedding cake. First, you want to make sure the flowers flow with the design of the cake. If your cake design is a tiered cake like in the photo above, then filing in between the tiers is the way to go. This bride also choose a nice soft green color hydrangea to compliment the espresso colored band in the center of each tier. This cake is simple yet so elegant at the same time.

Second, you want to make sure that your flowers are proportional to the size cake you have. You want the flowers to accent your cake not over power it.

Third, you will want to work with your florist on what flowers are the best to accent your cake with. We always suggest using some of the flowers that are being used in your other floral arrangements. Some flowers work better than others on a cake,  there are some that are poisonous and we definitely do not want to use those on a wedding cake.

There are so many varieties of flowers and colors that can be used- we can make almost any flowers out of sugar! The pink flowers on the cake above are all sugar! Yes, you really could eat everyone of them! This is a fun way to add flowers to your cake-  guests will always be amazed at how real they look.

Either way you go, flowers can add a nice touch to a cake as long as they are done to coordinate with the flow of the cake design.  Please feel free to contact one of our cake designers if you have any questions at all about floral arranging, we are happy to help!

This past week we were able to go on site at Adventure Science Center here in Nashville to have a cookie decorating class with about 60 children ages 3- 12.

We made Gingerbread Men and Christmas Tree shaped cookies for them to decorate. The only part we did for them was icing the tree green. We provided icing and candy decorations for them to adorn their cookies with.

We had the Gingerbread Granny with us to help instruct everyone on how to make their cookies and how to decorate them. We gave very little instruction as far as where to place the candies, we really wanted to see what the children would come up with.

It was amazing to see the creativity that comes out when given a bag of icing and candy. We had all kinds of decorated cookies when it was all over. Some even decorated their plate to complete a full scene. Some just wanted to eat their cookie and candy. We had some Gingerbread Men wearing roller skate and one with curlers in her hair. Some in skirts and some in suites, some with just buttons down the front.

As you can see we had so much fun creating these wonderful cookies and spending time with the kids. The best part was seeing how happy the kids were and the adults too, once they were finished with their little pieces of art work.

Once they were finished we placed the cookies in a bag and they were able to take their cookies home to eat.

This was a new experience for us here at The Bake Shoppe but we had so much fun doing it, we are thinking of offering cookie decorating classes in the future.

This was a great idea for a child’s Christmas party but could be done for any event. If you or anyone you know is interested in a cookie class, contact us and we will be happy to talk to you about scheduling your class.
